One of the better Ultrabooks available today is the best notebook Sony has ever made. The flimsy island keyboard is the only aspect that detracts from what could be a modern classic.

User Rating

Sony often gets a bad rap for expensive devices, but this time around, the premium cost of the Sony VAIO Pro 13 Touch is justified. This isn’t another MacBook Air ripoff; the design is unique and the carbon-fiber enclosure is a daring, although well-implemented, decision, and ultimately keeps things light but durable. This is a flagship device that brings together many Sony innovations into a sexy and portable form factor.

Sony went thin and light even before Intel and Apple ushered in the Airs and Ultrabooks we now know. The Sony VAIO Pro 13 Touch is the latest flagship Ultrabook and one of the lightest 13-inch notebooks in the market. Powered by the new Intel Haswell architecture that blends power and long battery life, it is clad entirely in carbon fiber.

This has one of the nicest, crispest, and most pleasing panels in the market today. Featuring Sony’s best of breed BRAVIA technologies as well as great graphics processing, this is one Ultrabook that professionals and video editors might consider taking on the road.

The balance between power, long battery life, and portability reaches a new zenith with the Sony VAIO Pro 13. This is a concentration of Sony’s strengths as a premium notebook manufacturer and proof that all-day computing is possible even without the large battery accessories they’ve had to resort to in the past.

Out of the box, the Sony VAIO Pro 13 will easily manage six hours of battery life, and this can be extended to 11 hours with a separate battery attachment.

Sony has once again proven that it can make the lightest Ultrabooks with a reasonable amount of performance and functionality. At the time of testing, the Sony VAIO Pro Touch 13 is the lightest touch-enabled Ultrabook I’ve tested and one with the nicer design thanks to the use of angular carbon-fiber construction.
