Uber brings new carpooling service uberHOP in PH

With the unfortunate current condition of the country’s mass transportation systems—unabated traffic, grueling ticket lines in train stations, grumpy taxi drivers—the regular Filipino commuter’s suffering seems to have no end. Fortunately, Uber has heard our cries for easier rush hour commute and introduced its newest social carpooling service uberHOP.

This new ride-sharing option from Uber allows people heading in the same direction to share a ride during rush hours for an introductory flat fare of P75.

Here’s how to use uberHOP:

1. Open the Uber app on your phone and select the uberHOP option. Make sure you update the app to the latest version.

2. Check to see if you’re in the area where uberHOP is available. Request a ride. Uber will pair you up with a driver and other riders heading in the same direction.

3. Walk to the suggested meeting place to meet your fellow riders (up to 5 others) and wait for the driver to arrive. Don’t be late, though, as the driver won’t wait until the end of the world day for you!

Uber assures an uninterrupted ride as the uberHOP won’t be taking stops until you reach your destination, with the driver dropping you off at the most convenient spot.

It’s also important to note that only one person per app is allowed to request for an uberHOP carpool. If you’re with someone, have him or her request for an uberHOP, too.

Commuters can catch uberHOP Mondays to Fridays (except for non-working holidays) from 7:00-10:00 a.m. and 4:00-9:00 p.m. Currently, the ride-sharing is only available for those traveling in BGC and Makati, but Uber will open the service to more locations soon.
