SanDisk upgrades its arsenal of Solid State Drives (SSDs) with the release of new high-speed and portable models, as well as entry-level internal SSD products that can boost PC, laptop, and tablet performance.

Headlining the group are two powerful and portable SSDs—the SanDisk Extreme 900 Portable SSD and the SanDisk Extreme 500 Portable SSD.

The Extreme 900 Portable SSD, tagged as the world’s highest-performing portable SSD, features transfer speeds nine times faster than a hard drive. With its capability to move files at 850MB/s, this storage device is perfect for photographers and video editors who are dealing with large-resolution sets or 4K videos. Made out of compact, durable aluminum case, the Extreme 900 is available in 480GB (P29,000), 960GB (P43,500), and 1.92TB (P72,500) variants.

Coming in a smaller form factor is the SanDisk Extreme 500 Portable SSD. While sporting a slower speed compared to its brother, this temperature- and impact-resistant model has four times faster transfer speeds compared to a hard drive. It is available in 120GB (P7,250) and 240GB (P10,850) variants.

During the local launch of the SanDisk products, a live demonstration was done to compare the transfer speeds of a regular hard drive and the Extreme 500 Portable SSD. A 1GB file took a regular hard drive 25 seconds to transfer, while the Extreme 500 moved the files in a mere less than 5 seconds.

“SSDs are taking over computing. Boot time and data access times are reduced while battery life is extended. But it’s not just notebooks. Gamers and performance PC users at home are turning to SSDs for better performance and so are photographers, videographers, and creative professionals looking to move massive files at phenomenal speeds,” said SanDisk Corporation’s Country Manager for Hong Kong and Philippines, Candy Gao.

“With our strong heritage and broad portfolio in SSDs, we at SanDisk are best positioned to provide SSD solutions for different market segments, all with a brand they trust,” she added.

Aside from its two high-performance SSDs, SanDisk also announced that it will also release four additional SSDs designed for PC, laptop, and tablet users in the country.

The SanDisk SSD Plus is for laptop and desktop users who want to improve their device’s system performance thanks to the SSD Plus’ read speed reaching 520MB/s. The SSD Plus is available in 120GB and 240GB variants. Meanwhile, the SanDisk Ultra II SSD promises PC users up to 28 times improved performance and an extended battery life by up to 20% with its read speed of up to 550MB/s and write speed up to 500MB/s.

Also joining the pack is the SanDisk Ultra mSATA SSD for laptop and tablet users who want to enhance their mSATA-enabled systems. It has read speeds of 550MB/s and a 512GB capacity. Lastly, the SanDisk Extreme Pro SSD is crafted for gamers, PC enthusiasts, and media professionals. It offers a 1TB capacity alongside a 550MB/s read speed and 520MB/s write speed.
