Samsung unveiled new GALAXY Note and Gear products at the Samsung Unpacked 2014 Episode 2 in Berlin, Germany at 9:00 p.m. Manila time. The event was streamed live on Samsung Mobile’s YouTube page, but we’ll spare you the 2-hour video. Here are the important details that you should know about the GALAXY Note 4, GALAXY Note Edge, Gear S and Gear Circle Bluetooth headset, and the surprise of the night, Gear VR.

Perhaps taking in all the criticism about their products’ plastic bodies, Samsung incorporated, for the very first time, a metal frame in its Note line. The Note 4 still has a large screen at 5.7 inches, a category that Samsung proudly proclaims to have started with the launch of the first-generation Note. The familiar soft-textured back cover and S Pen are still there, in partnership with Mont Blanc.

The 3MP front-facing camera boasts an aperture of f/1.9 with a viewing angle that can extend up to 180 degrees. The 3,2200mAh battery is fast-charging, going from empty to 50 percent in 30 minutes. The Note 4 will be available in Charcoal Black, Frost White, Bronze Gold, and Blossom Pink.

GALAXY Note Edge

This is one of the first surprises of the night. The Note Edge has an Edge screen, a part of the screen that extends and curves to one side of the phone. What’s that for? Take it straight from Samsung’s words:

“The Galaxy Note Edge’s unique curved Edge screen provides quick access to frequently used apps, alerts and device functionality–even when the cover is closed–all with the swipe of a thumb. Users can also receive notifications directly on the Edge Screen while watching videos without disturbing their viewing.”

The Note Edge will be available in Charcoal Black and Frost White.

Samsung calls this “a perfect health and fitness companion with more enhanced multi-sensors, built-in GPS, and robust S Health features.” For maximized use for health purposes, it is recommended to pair the Gear S with the Gear Circle.
