WD has launched the new My Passport Wireless External Hard Drive—a Wi-Fi enabled storage drive that lets you save, access, and share stored content with any smartphone, tablet, computer, or other devices.

Simon Whitford, WD senior regional marketing manager APAC, led the launch and live demonstration of the portable hard drive in a media event last November 20 at the Marco Polo Hotel.

The My Passport Wireless—much like a cable-free NAS—creates a network in which up to eight devices can jump on and access the content stored on the drive without any wires or Internet connection. This allows devices with minimal storage capacity such as smartphones and tablets to store and stream wirelessly up to hundreds of movies, music, photos, and other digital files.

Professional photographers and enthusiasts can also copy files directly from the SD card or transfer photos from their camera while shooting them with the integrated SD card slot and FTP. Aside from that, this portable wireless drive provides the option of using a high speed USB 3.0 connection for transferring large amounts of data.

Managing the drive is done over the WD’s browser-based dashboard when connected to a PC via cable, while smartphones and tablets access the content stored on the drive with My Cloud mobile app. Its built-in rechargeable battery provides up to six hours of continuous streaming and up to 20 hours of standby power.

WD’s My Passport Wireless is priced at P9,590 and P11,990 for the 1TB and 2TB models, respectively. You can download the My Cloud app from the Apple App Store and Google Play for free.
