Microsoft has officially rolled out an update to its classic office suite last October 29.

The new Office 2016 is now designed for on-the-go use, and has incorporated new features including multi-user accessibility of files, improved search features, in-the-doc web browsing, and enhanced security features.

During the press launch, Microsoft came out with a recent study conducted together with Organisation Solutions titled the New World of Work Index. The study analyzed how today’s workforce stayed productive and found that more workers are continuing their work even outside their office cubicles and office hours.

The Microsoft’s Office 2016, hence was designed to suit this changing lifestyle. Below are some of Office 2016’s latest features.

Collaboration made easy

Headlining Office 2016’s hottest treat is the ability to co-author files in Word, PowerPoint, and OneNote. With co-authoring, two or more users can now access and edit a file simultaneously.

Users can also choose with whom to share the file by simply typing in an email address within the document. Real-time typing in Word lets other users see the live editing, while an improved version history helps multiple users keep track of the edited versions.

Aside from having an easy access to documents, files including music, photos, and videos, can now be shared by users everywhere via OneNote. For instance, a business owner based in Manila can check files from the office computer of his business’ branch in Cebu through OneNote.

Work with ease

Another exciting addition is the Tell Me, a smart search engine that allows you to easily track down tools, files, or just about anything. Tell Me works like a personal assistant. If you forgot the name of a file, you can order Tell Me to search by simply typing even the vaguest keyword and it will automatically suggest possible files or locations.

The Smart Lookup, on the other hand, can make your life whenever you are working on a document or presentation. With Smart Lookup, you can now search the web within Word, Excel, or PowerPoint without having to open a separate browser.

The Office 2016 also includes an in-app integration of Skype that now allows users to see IM, screen share, talk, or video chat within docs. Also, Office 365 Groups will now come available as part of Outlook and on iOS, Android, and Windows in the new Office.

Stay secure

More than productivity, Microsoft ensures that users don’t run into damaging risks, hence improving the Office 2016’s security features.

With the system’s data loss prevention, users can rest assured that the new Office reduces the risk of leaving sensitive data by giving IT admins tools to centrally create, manage, and enforce policies for content authoring and document sharing.

Further, with multi-factor authentication, accessing of content from anywhere is made more secure. The Information Rights Management, meanwhile, can help you encrypt data whether online or offline.
