They say a picture paints a thousand words. But Instagram isn’t happy with just a thousand, so it is now opening its doors to video posts, as Kevin Systrom, co-founder of Instagram, announced on the company’s blog.

That means you and I will no longer just stare at our friends’ food all day, we can actually watch them grab a bite and hear their teeth grinding—proof that they’re truly eating their food, not just taking a picture of it. Because, really, friends can be very distrusting.

With the introduction of Video on Instagram, you will see a video icon in-app when you go on camera mode. You can record up to 15 seconds of footage, add a filter to it (no frames), and share. Live preview of how your videos turn out with the different filters is available for your artistic evaluation.

Instagram’s support of video posts comes in competition with Twitter’s Vine—as if Instagram and Twitter aren’t bumping heads already. It will be interesting to see how Instagrammers will take advantage of this new feature, and whether the world of social media will take sides. These quickie videos might also be a new venue for internet stardom, just as YouTube has catapulted average Juans and Juanitas to the limelight.

What are you waiting for? Update your Instagram app for iOS or Android now. But you better learn how to whirl in your skirt for #OOTD or teach your dog a trick or two. Per usual, cats need not do a thing.
