Meralco’s inaugural MTECH 2015 to push innovations in the power industry

Pushing to create innovative solutions to improve customer service in the Philippine power industry, Meralco Corporation launched the first-ever MTECH forum, which ran from June 24 to 26. MTECH 2015 is a three-day summit that brings together leaders in power innovation to share and discuss insights, as well as partnerships that may help the electric company fulfill its goal of providing sustainable and reliable energy.

Entitled “Visioneering,” the MTECH 2015 focused on the creating new opportunities for innovative solutions to increase consumer interaction, build consumer empowerment, improve energy efficiency, integrate renewable and distributed resources, and expand avenues for electric transformation, while ensuring affordable, sustainable, and reliable energy.

Present during the MTECH forum were Merlaco Chairman Manuel V. Pangilinan, Meralco President and CEO Oscar Reyes, Meralco SVP and Head of Consumer Retail Services and Corporate Communications Alfredo Panlilio, and Meralco Chief Technology Adviser Gavin Barfield, who also gave a talk with special guest and keynote speaker Kerrie L. Holley, an IBM Fellow awardee and Master Inventor.

Barfield discussed in his talk how vision necessitates transformation and how technology plays an important role in this process. “In the past years, Meralco has put new technologies into its system, but we know there is still more to be done. In the coming years, Meralco will definitely employ disruptive technologies to achieve the vision that we dared to imagine now,” Barfield said.

Holley’s lecture entitled “Rethink Disruption”  focused on the use of Disruptive Technologies to spark progress in the country and uplift the lives of Filipinos.

IBM Analytics Chief Data Scientist Dr. Olav Laudy and Dell’s South Asia Head of Big Data and Cloud Practice also graced the event to talk about the future of utility companies via utilization of big data, analytics, and cloud, while Siemens ASEAN Chief Technology Officer and Engineering Head Anand Gopal Menon and Opower APAC Managing Director Sajin Rehan discussed smart technologies and customer applications.

Meralco’s partner brands, including Cisco, Citrix, Cloudera, Dell, Indra, Landis + Gyr, Microsoft, GMS, Hitachi, IBM, pay Maya, Safezone, Salesforce, Samsung Business, Schneider Electric, Siemens, Toshiba, Eisenpatt Solutions, SAP, and Opower, showcased their products and services at the New Technologies and Innovations Exhibit at the Meralco Lopez Building lobby during the three-day summit.
