After formalizing its partnership with the Tourism Promotions Board of the Philippines, Globe Telecom announced that it will be distributing free SIM cards to OFWs and tourists in support of the government’s campaign Visit the Philippines Year 2015, a project that aims to strengthen the country’s tourism.

As Globe’s gesture of contributing to the cause, the free Globe Traveler SIM card will offer local rates for international calls and texts and provide cheaper mobile data services. By subscribing to TravelSurf, users get a cheaper mobile data at a rate of $11 for 7 days or a mere $23 for 30 days. Calls abroad, meanwhile rate for $0.40 per minute. Users will also be able to receive calls and texts from abroad for free.

To avail of the free SIM, tourists and OFWs need only to present their Philippine passport, foreign resident card, Seaman’s book, or OFW E-card at any Globe-booths located at the following airports starting July 30, 2015: NAIA, Cebu, Davao, Kalibo, Iloilo, and Clark International Airport.

According to Globe Senior Vice-President for International Business Rizza Maniego-Eala (in the photo above), the joint venture intends to enhance tourists’ experience in the country. “Staying connected is a priority for the millions of travelers who visit our country. They use mobile data to find information and share memorable experiences, while calls and SMS are still important tools to keep in touch. Our Traveler SIM gives them access to all these and gives us the privilege of being their connectivity partner in the Philippines,” said Maniego-Eala.

“Offering free SIMs is our way of helping travelers further enjoy their stay by enabling easy, affordable, and hassle-free communications,” she added.

Meanwhile, Tourism Promotions Board Chief Operating Officer Domingo Ramon C. Enerio III lauded the partnership. “It is a privilege to be partnering with Globe in our endeavors to promote the country as a top tourist destination in Asia. Visit the Philippines Year 2015 aims to excite and encourage local and international visitors to actively participate in the year-long calendar of tourism activities that we have in the pipeline,” he said.

“By working with Globe, we are optimistic that more tourists in the Philippines will enjoy seamless connectivity to share wonderful moments to their friends and families anywhere around the world,” Enerio added.

The free SIM card promo will run until the end of December 2015.
