The Siargao ultimate adventure

On the next day, Epson treated the media and bloggers to a one-of-a-kind tour of Siargao via a one-day multi-challenge, multi-site competition a la Amazing Race through this tropical paradise. Divided into six groups of eight journalists and two employees of Epson (Philippines, Singapore, or Japan) or Extant PR, the whole contingent started the competition off with a kayak race through the mangrove forest reserve in Del Carmen. The second challenge saw the participants spelling out “EPSON” through different yoga poses while standing on floating paddleboards.

This set off the challengers to take the habal habal, a local form of transportation using a motorcycle that supports up to two passengers sitting behind the driver, to the public market. There, teams were tasked to buy enough food that they can cook and eat for lunch.

After shopping, the teams rode boats, another form of public transportation in Siargao, toward the picturesque Dako Island. A hut, bags of coal, small fire pit in the sand, a kawali, a sandok, cooked rice on a banana leaf, and bottles of water were provided for each team. The challenge was for the teams to start a fire, cook their food, and eat everything before they can move on in the race. Everyone left the huts with full bellies but still hungry for more challenges.

Bowling with a coconut and sticks of bamboo proved difficult, but what almost leveled off the playing field was the sixth challenge: digging through sand in search of a bottle containing the clue to the next and final challenge. All the teams took their bitter time sifting through the white sands of Naked Island.

Another boat ride took the teams back to the public market, where they all ran to individual habal habal units to race back to the resort for the final challenge. There, each team had to score five soccer goals before they can get their hands on the multicolor A4 puzzle pieces that formed the Epson Fusion 7 logo—each printed on photo paper using Epson printers.

In the end, Yellow Team, which was leading the whole race, finished first. Cyan, Magenta, Black, and Orange teams took second, third, fourth, and fifth places, respectively.

Day 2 was capped off with a night of awarding, celebration, and revelry.

Epson Fusion is an annual multi-day event that showcases the company’s performance and new product lineup, while treating local media and bloggers to an exciting adventure as a way of thanking them for their support.
