In 1965, Swiss watchmaker Edox launched the Hydro-Sub, a dive watch that can survive up to a depth of 500m. It has since become one of the world’s most iconic diver’s timepieces.

To celebrate this pioneering watch’s 50th anniversary, Edox launched a new, updated limited edition. Like the original, the new Hydro-Sub Automatic Limited Edition is water-resistant up to 500m, and features an engraved case-back with a view of the earth as seen from the North Pole, the individual number of the watch (there are only 515 pieces), and an inscription marking the watch’s 50th anniversary. The 46mm watch, which comes with a special blue dial with white and green markers, was successfully tried and tested at the North Pole last April by world champion freediver Ch

The timepiece features an automatic movement, unidirectional rotatable bezel, and Edox’s MasterLock feature that protects the crown while diving, making sure that the watch is water-tight and can stand the pressure.

Redl, who was present during the launch held at the pool side of Raffles Makati last May 25, thanked Edox for providing him a watch that timed his arctic dives to the split second. Redl showed a short film of his free dive at the North Pole, and gave a brief tutorial on proper breathing techniques and the basics of freediving.
