You probably went to sleep last night wondering what new Apple tablets you will wake up to this morning. So, here’s the rundown: the world says hello to the 9.7-inch iPad Air and the 7.9-inch iPad mini with Retina display. And we’re telling you all about them.

There are no big surprises. The iPad Air is perhaps the most unexpected of the announcements and upgrades. As the name implies, it is thinner (7.5mm) and lighter than the fourth-generation iPad (469-478g), and sports a slimmer bezel as well. The 64-bit A7 chip makes another appearance, which is said to prolong battery life up to 10 hours. There is still the Retina display, which packs 264ppi on iPad Air’s screen.

While many speculated that Apple will offer the new iPad in various colors, as it does the new iPhone, it decided to stick with only two colorways with the iPad Air: space gray and black, and silver and white.

With all the upgrades, the iPad Air starts at a higher price at $499 for the 16GB Wi-Fi model.

The iPad mini now has a 326ppi Retina display, which it should have had before if you ask everyone outside of Apple. It gained weight because of it, on top of getting fatter, although still at par with the other 7-inch tablets in the market. And with the 64-bit A7 chip, it pretty much runs as smooth as the larger iPad Air.

Prices for the iPad mini starts at $399 for the 16GB Wi-Fi model.

Both the iPad Air and the iPad mini have Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi+LTE versions, and will be available by November 1.
