Nothing can replace good ol’ fashioned driving that requires you to use all your senses, that’s for sure. But traffic-induced stress can sometimes get the best of us that we tend to lose control of our senses—sometimes even our common sense. This is why any help in the technology front sounds so enticing.

The all-new Mercedes-Benz E-Class, launched by distributor Auto Nation Group early this week, takes safety and comfort to a whole new level with new, intelligent features. It can warn you of an impending collision, autonomously apply the brakes if needed, detect obstacles on the road and warn you accordingly, help you change lanes easily, and keep you safer (and even save you) when it senses that the car is about to crash. All these are thanks to a multitude of radars, cameras, and sensors built into a handsomely elegant saloon.

Some of these new systems are fitted as standard, while others are optional.

Active Lane Change Assist helps you effortlessly change lanes by monitoring the road around you. With a touch of the turn-signal lever, the car steers into the adjacent lane, so long as it detects that it’s safe to do so.

In an impending collision, Active Brake Assist provides just the right level of support during emergency braking. It can also apply the brakes automatically, if needed.

There’s also Attention Assist, which reminds you to take a break when the system senses that you’re being inattentive or are getting drowsy, as well as Parking Pilot, which helps you find sparking spaces and assists you in maneuvering into and out of parking spaces.

And then there’s Mercedes’ award-winning PRE-SAFE technology. Aside from tightening the seatbelts and automatically closing the side windows and moon roof in critical situations, the E-Class comes with PRE-SAFE Sound, which “covers” your ears with a safe “pink noise” to prepare your ears’ natural defense against the loud noises of a bang-up.

The all-new E-Class is powered by a 2.0-liter, inline four-cylinder gas engine good for 184hp and 300Nm. This is mated to a new 9G-TRONIC nine-speed automatic transmission. There are five driving modes you can choose from: Comfort, Eco, Sport, Sport+, and a customizable Individual mode.

For connectivity and entertainment, the E-Class’ comes with COMAND Online, which allows you to connect to the internet, and comes with a 12.3-inch screen where you can access navigation, entertainment, and other functionalities, plus hard-disc navigation with 3D map display. COMAND is standard on the AMG-Line models and an option in the Avantgarde and Exclusive variants. There’s a pair of touch-sensitive pads on the steering wheel and a Touchpad on the center console.

All these goodies are cased in the hallmark Mercedes saloon proportions—an elongated hood, a coupe-style roof, and wide-shouldered tail end.

Prices for the all-new Mercedes-Benz E-Class are as follows:

Mercedes-Benz E200 Exclusive: P4,390,000
Mercedes-Benz E200 Avantgarde: P4,390,000
Mercedes-Benz E200 AMG: P4,790,000
