ASUS changed the game of mobile photography when it introduced the ASUS ZenFone Zoom early this year. The ZenFone Zoom boasts of cutting-edge camera technology inside a 5 to 11.95mm-thick body. It is touted by ASUS as the world’s thinnest 3x optical zoom smartphone to date.

To promote this groundbreaking feature of the ZenFone Zoom, ASUS Philippines launched a visual and thematic campaign series called #SeeThePhilippinesUpClose. The campaign aims to encourage ZenFone Zoom users to unleash their creativity and capture the country and its most iconic corners from an entirely new perspective using the ASUS ZenFone Zoom.

Speed got the chance to join the second leg of the #SeeThePhilippinesUpClose last May 13 to 14. Together with ASUS Philippines team and other select media, we set off to visit a secret picturesque location northwest of Manila.

ZenFone Zoom in focus

A week before the event, ASUS already sent a loaner unit of the ZenFone Zoom at Speed‘s headquarters, complete with ZenFone photocards, Zenny action figure, and the clue to our top-secret destination.

Aside from the features mentioned above, the ZenFone Zoom’s camera  has a built-in optical image stabilization (OIS), which ensures sharper, steadier shots even at maximum 3X optical magnification, and 0.2 seconds laser auto-focus to take photograph moving subjects with total clarity. The rear camera benefits from dual LED Real Tone flash, creating a natural illumination for indoor portraits and capturing lifelike colors and skin tones.

The ZenUI Camera app has an array of modes and settings to help you take quality images, including Super Resolution, Depth of Field, Panorama, Low light, and Manual mode, among others. ASUS even made the design of the ZenFone Zoom look and feel like a professional DSLR camera with the dedicated physical buttons for shooting, recording, and zoom control.

Complementing the ZenFone Zoom’s powerful camera technology is the phone’s powerhouse performance, thanks to the 64-bit quad-core Intel Atom processor, 4GB RAM, and 128GB internal storage (expandable up to 128GB). The 5.5-inch 1920 x 1080 403ppi Full HD display of the ZenFone Zoom render your captured photos in eye-popping detail.

Other specs and features of the ZenFone Zoom are: ASUS ZenUI OS based on Android 5.0 Lollipop, 5MP wide-angle front camera, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth capabilities, and 3000mAh battery.

Zoom in on the Philippines

The group of media and bloggers, along with the ASUS Philippines team, left the hustling metro early Friday morning going to our destination: the open-air heritage park and museum Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar in Bagac, Bataan.

Since we already have a ZenFone Zoom in our hands, we decided to play with the camera and its features while traveling the roads of Manila to Bataan, taking photos of the vehicles overtaking us and later on the wide grass fields as we drew nearer to he location.

After just about four hours of travel, we have arrived at the scenic Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar, and we immediately started taking photos of the place using our ZenFone Zooms.

We checked in our respective casas, deposited our things in our rooms, and enjoyed a little reprieve before ASUS gathered the group once again for a short program over lunch, where ASUS officially opened the second leg of the #SeeThePhilippinesUpClose event series.

A little surprise for the media and bloggers: ASUS Philippines announced its partnership with professional photographer Shaira Luna for the #SeeThePhilippinesUpClose campaign with the ZenFone Zoom. After a warm welcome from ASUS Philippines Marketing Manager Jaime Zaldivar, Luna took the stage and gave a testament of her “mind-blowing and incredible smartphone photography experience” with the smartphone. She even gave personal tips on how to maximize the ZenFone Zoom’s camera features.

The program ended with an exciting challenge for the media in attendance from ASUS Philippines. Using our ZenFone Zoom units, the tips from Luna, and a bit of creativity, we were asked to take photographs of the architecture, texture, and natural landscapes of Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar. And Speed‘s answer is: challenge accepted!

Picturesque in picture

Everyone was given time to rest for a bit before we regrouped and started with the guided tour around the very scenic Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar. This is also an opportunity for the media and bloggers present to try the ZenFone Zoom and take pictures for ASUS’ photo challenge.

The challenge required the participants to take pictures of nature or wildlife, architecture, moving object, and landscapes. Features such as the 3x Optical Zoom, Low-light mode, Depth of field mode, laser auto focus, and panorama should also be used when capturing the photos.

Brand ambassador Shaira Luna even joined us during the tour, photographing the picturesque old houses, wide grounds, bricks pavements, and other details.

At the end of the day, Speed was able to take enough photos of the beautiful landscapes and architecture in Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar, and then some. Below are Speed‘s entries for the #SeeThePhilippinesUpClose photo challenge. Click on the photos to enlarge.

Capping off Day One of the #SeeThePhilippinesUpClose in Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar is a scrumptious dinner by the river.

The next day was given as free time, so everyone can further enjoy and explore the place. For lunch, the attending media and bloggers enjoyed authentic Italian cuisines in La Bella Teodora, one of the three restaurants in Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar.

We headed home to Metro Manila right after lunch and check-out, bringing home beautiful memories and images of a picturesque weekend getaway.

Available in Pure Black and Ceramic White, the ASUS ZenFone (4GB RAM, 128GB internal storage) is already retailing in the Philippines for P26,995.
