How To: Set up your iPad mini

If you’re like me and prefer your gadget small and travel-friendly, then last year’s release of the iPad mini was a sigh of relief.

Setting up the small wonder is not as daunting as it may look. All you need is a Wi-Fi connection or a computer (with iTunes installed) connected to the internet, and a credit card.

  • Turning on the device, you will be asked what language they want set.
  • After selecting, tap the blue “Next” button then choose the country where you are using the iPad and tap “Next” again.
  • Now you will need online access. Choose either a Wi-Fi network to connect or course through a computer that runs iTunes and is connected to the internet.
  • Your iPad mini will ask whether you want to Enable Location Services for certain apps. Choose your settings, but keep in mind that if you choose to disable this feature, you can always turn it on later by going to the General Settings menu.

If this is your first iPad, your iPad mini will be set up as new. But for those who have owned previous models, you can restore your previous iPad’s settings from iCloud or iTunes. Just follow the on-screen prompts to retrieve your last backup.

Next is setting up your Apple ID.

For owners of other iOS devices, simply sign in. For first time users, create your free Apple ID, which will require your personal information and a payment method. Agree to Apple’s terms and conditions and then we push on to the final stretch.

Choose whether you want to use your free 5GB iCloud service for backup, whether you want to activate your Find My iPad, how people can find you on FaceTime and iMessage, and finally, if you want to use Siri.

Presto! Setup is complete!
