7 things to know about the Samsung Galaxy Note7

7 things to know about the Samsung Galaxy Note7
User Rating

Samsung has taken the wraps off of the successor to last year’s Galaxy Note5. The 5.7-inch Galaxy Note7 (no, you didn’t hibernate and skipped an entire generation; Samsung really skipped a number) ships with Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow, while its internal specs are nearly identical with the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge, including the camera’s dual-pixel sensor technology.

As expected, there’s a lot of information to digest, so we’ve chosen to highlight seven features of the new phablet:

1. Iris scanner

For added security, Samsung did not just stop at fingerprint scanning for biometric authentication. The Note7 comes with iris scanning technology that allows you to unlock your phone by simply placing your eyes in front of the iris scanner. You can also use this feature for web sign-in and to unlock a Secure Folder where you can keep private and sensitive information safe.

2. Water-resistant body and S Pen

With IP68 resistance, the Galaxy Note7 can survive a spill or splash. The same is true for the S Pen and slot. And speaking of, the new S Pen has a smaller 0.7mm tip and improved pressure sensitivity for a more real pen-like experience.

3. HDR video streaming capabilities

The Note7 is HDR video streaming-ready. Enjoy watching videos on the phone’s curved 5.7-inch QHD Super AMOLED screen.

4. USB Type-C

The Galaxy Note7 is the first Samsung phone with a USB Type-C port. Samsung thoughtfully included a USB Type-C-to-microUSB adapter in the box. The Note7 also supports wireless charging and fast-charging capabilities.

5. Expandable 64GB storage

The Note7 has of internal memory out of the box, but you can expand this further thanks to the addition of a microSD slot, which can accommodate a microSD card up to 256GB.

6. Accessorize

A line of Note7 accessories will be available, including the new S View Standing Cover that can be used to prop the device at a 60-degree angle, as well as an IP68 water-resistant Backpack for on-the-go charging.

7. It retails for P39,990

The Galaxy Note7 will be available starting on August 20, and will be offered in Black Onyx and Gold Platinum. You may pre-order from August 6 to August 15 at Samsung Experience Stores and select Abensons and SM Appliance Store branches. The package will include a free Gear VR headset.
